Friends of the Virginia Pep Band, Inc. formed in May 2003 to support student self-governance and self-expression through The Award-Winning Virginia Fighting Cavalier Indoor/Outdoor Precision (?) Marching Pep Band and Chowder Society Revue, Unlimited!!! (a.k.a. The Virginia Pep Band).  The mission of FVPB is:

• to develop, support, and promote the general welfare and performance activities of the Virginia Pep Band, which is a student-run “scatter band”-style musical ensemble that is a Contracted Independent Organization at the University of Virginia;

• to encourage and maintain enthusiastic public interest in all aspects of the Virginia Pep Band;
  

• to preserve the tradition of “scatter band”-style musical ensembles that perform field shows at athletic events featuring a combination of scrambling from formation-to-formation, performances of instrumental music, and humorous and/or spirited announcements, by stimulating, promoting, and developing an interest this form of performance among the general public; and
  

• to foster communication between alumni and supporters of the Virginia Pep Band and those who appreciate and support the “scatter band” form of performance.
